Hosted a website

Yesterday I hosted a website for the company where I had done my summer project. The company already had its details on the net in the Companys Group Site. I had suggested them that they should have a seperate site as international and local investors, government authorities and other stakeholders are interested in what the company does and not with what the group does. The site was designed by me and was approved by the GMs of the company and finally it was hosted yesterday.

I was surprised to hear that most of them are doing MBA. whenever I hear that a friend of mine is doing MBA one thought that comes to my mind is "Woh Bhi MBA kar raha hai". Its good that people are regonizing the importance of Post graduation. Well hope to see old buddies somewhere in the corporate world.

Memories

In the last couple of days I contacted few of my classmates during graduation. It was nice to listen to them. Few mailed me and few had a telephonic conversation. Its a good thing to be in touch with the old freinds, isn't it.

The Present...

Read the book The Present by Spencer Johnson. I had heard about the story last year. Day before I thought I should read this book and believe me this is an amazing book. The flow of the story does'nt bore and the believe me it is hard to stop reading until the story comes to an end. I would simply say that the book is another good work of Spencer Johnson after his earlier work- Who Moved My Cheese...

Chanakya: A Legend

Chanakya

Started with the study of life and works of the legendry economist Chanakya also known as Kautilya. I came across few books and facts about the life and works of Chanakya which are worth learning. I completed his work on Neetishastra and have started with his famous work on economics and finance: The Arthashastra.

Dull Markets

Nifty and Sensex since the past week have fallen. One interesting thing I found was that the Indian Markets are correlated to other emerging Asian Markets. There exists a high degree of Positive Correlation between these markets. Small traders are not able to get this picture. I had asked in my Dissertation about the influence of the foreign markets on Indian markets, and guess what Small Traders responded saying they do not consider the movement of foreign markets to effect Indian Markets. Now its time for them to realise that Markets are correlated and every market affects the other market.

NPV or IRR?

In selecting a project from variuos projects, I feel NPV would be the best method in such a process when compared to IRR. IRR assumes that the investment is made at the same rate of interest every year/period whereas NPV does not. NPV is the best method to be used in such decisions becasue it gives the net present value of the project and if NPV is positive it means we are maximising shareholders wealth and if it is negative then the shareholders wealth will be reduced. OK then how to find NPV. Firstly calculate the Cash flows. Secondly, discount the cash flows and difference between the total of these discounted cash flows and the initial investment gives the NPV. The reason to use NPV over IRR is that it helps in acheiving the goal of Shareholders Wealth Maximisation.

Nifty under correction

Nifty has undergone a small correction by closing today 2032.20 (down by 71.55). i feel this is the exact time for the correction.

BSE

even BSE Sensex showed a correction which was down by -192.17 and closed at 6,458.84. when the markets are overheated they undergo a correction. but i feel this is for a short duration. As the economy is picking up by inflation coming down, oil prices remaining at a level of $42, industrial production level showing a good growth i feel the markets are going to be bullish.

its a long time

its a very long time that i met my parents. i remember i met them at their 25th marriage anniversary in the month of july 2004. i think i should visit belgaum in the month february. busy with the classes and projects. i need to meet them at the earliest.

Mr. RIL

in my opionion i feel that Mr. Mukesh should remain the owner of the company and there is no use in discussing the issue related to ownership. i believe that once the board of directors have agreed and showed confidence in Mr Mukesh, i feel he should continue. ultimately board of directors represents the shareholders. i dont know why people still talk about the ownership issue when Mr Mukesh holds majority stake in the company and he is a person acting in concert. hope people wil realise this soon
