why we should be going into space?

Should we be expanding to different planets in the space…well with the saying ‘dont have all your eggs in one basket’… should..humans be present in more than one planet, just to make sure that not all eggs (all humans) are in one basket (earth). Brian Malow, The Science Comedian in his short and interesting video for TIME.com puts a case on why we should be going into space… Here is the link for the video on TIME.com…

i have been here before!

This is not the time when most of the tourists visit Coorg...however, with a group of three other friends we planned a trip here. Madikeri, covered in clouds with rain pouring and pouring and pouring...was a good scene to see. Early morning hours are very cold and 1 PM here seems like its 6 AM in Bangalore with the day light being low...

I have come to this place many times in the last 4 years, and the weather of this place interests me to come over again and again...November to May is the best time to be here as it does not rain much and a lot of places can be visited around. While any time is the best to be here if the objective is to relax and enjoy the nature...

the winner - fb or twitter…

I had posted a few posts about Facebook and Twitter and how these social networking sites are changing the way we communicate and helping a wide number of users to stay in touch with friends, etc… A little different thought I had in mind when I came back from work while I was browsing… Thought, lets explore which of the social networking sites has the max number of records when searched on the web. Tried the google fight site to find the number of such records. And the results were not surprising when I compared Facebook, Twitter and Orkut… the winner was twitter with huge number of records. However, the unique hits received by fb are much higher than that of twitter… During Feb 2009, fb received around 65 mn unique hits while compared to 7 mn by twitter. In a short span of time fb managed to grow at a rapid rate from 20 mn users as of 7th January 2006 to around 240 mn by the end of 2nd July 2009 (source). That was a good good and a good growth rate! while orkut and twitter struggled to match the number of unique hits counted on fb. The real-time home page of fb along with apps and some silly but interesting quizzes continues to attract more and more users…While fb offers more features than twitter or orkut… it is likely to grow with a huge user base…

The first Flickr family…

The most powerful person and his family have a flickr account! This flickr photo stream has the photos taken at the White House showing the President in meetings, interacting with the White House staff, playing football in office! and making time for his family… Here is the link to flickr photo stream
Have got the RSS feed of the photo stream integrated into my reader, and have noticed one thing about the President…he likes football and there are quite a few photos where one can see him with the football!

in an elevator = monkey!!!

I had posted a comment about elevators a while ago on facebook…”generally people stare the ceiling often when in an elevator…” Freakonomics has an interesting article on the Elevators make monkey out of us. This article describes the behavior of various people when in an elevator..things like people staring at the ceiling when there are two people in an elevator – why do they try to stand far away at the corner of the elevator etc..etc..
Two people who know each other stand close by…have you observed where you are standing when you have a stranger in an elevator…often two strangers try to stand away from each other – its just a signal to the other person not to get close or showing that ‘I am not interested in an conversation!’. Why don’t most of the people start a conversation with a stranger…They might start a conversation if they had met this person in a train, or a bus stand where there were other people around… We all try to be social when we think its safe, else no matter what we wont trigger a conversation or give a smiling gesture if we think it wasn’t safe to be with the stranger and elevator being a closed box adds a little fear to the scene…

its been a good saturday...

I have been trying my hands on creating cartoon characters using online websites and the sims app. This has been an interesting activity since the last few weeks and I really appreciate the sims ability in providing features to create characters with variable expressions.. Today being a holiday...spent a good deal of time in creating couple of characters. To add on.. the best part was the Kishore kumar songs that I was playing while creating the characters... The songs and the activity of creating characters went so well and was synchronised with the random play list of songs that I did not realize that I spent so much of time in front of the pc...

Well sims is a good app...however, nothing can beat Kishore Kumar songs...they are evergreen and you just get lost in those songs!
